The particular thing that I like about my kit versus so many others, is that if you live in a flat and can't put up a decent long-wire aerial, you can always go on a walk and attach this portable version to two wires on a long farm fence to get a signal.
The kit now comes with all the parts required to add a single transistor for much added loudness and sensitivity. This modification has minimal aerial requirements, so if you can't make the purist crystal set work at your house, the single transistor radio version should get you going. The level of additional complexity is minimal, and you only need one old AA battery to make it work.
You should be able to make this without further assistance if you're aged 14 or above.
