12V Pre-Wired LED 5mm 12 Volt Diffused Lens Various Colours Constant

This is one item of diffused lens 5mm diameter 12V pre-wired LED. These types have a wide viewing angle and are more suitable for use as indicators and for some decorative uses than the clear types. The resistor is fitted into the wiring. You can select any of the available colours using the variation drop-downs and get the cheaper prices per unit by selecting the five and ten pack quantities. If you would like to mix colours in a pack, please use the MIX option and send me a list of your requirements in a site message or in a note attached to the purchase.

One LED runs at about 20mA on 12V and all will operate well down to 5V running at 4.5mA with somewhat reduced brightness. They are quite bright, so the 5V or 6V operation is easily good enough for an indicator. Operation from a small 9V battery is good at around 15mA. A 9V 550mAh Duracell Procell MN1604 (PP3) will drive one constant LED for about 36 hours. A 6V battery pack of four Duracell 'Ultra Power' MN1500(AA) will drive one LED for about 500 hours.

Operation from a regulated 12V D.C. power supply is fine, but beware of train set transformers or battery chargers which provide a.c. or rectified a.c. output at a substantially higher peak voltage than the stated nominal. The LEDs will fail immediately on such supplies.
